South Africa’s (SA) Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies has requested an urgent meeting with Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana to seek answers over an outstanding $237 million pledged to the SA Post Office (SAPO).
The money was allocated for infrastructure upgrades, digitisation and settling debts as part of efforts to stabilise the struggling entity, which is currently under business rescue.
Parliament’s legal adviser, Advocate Aadielah Arnold, said feedback from business rescue practitioners suggests the funding delay is threatening the recovery plan.
She warned that without the promised support, SAPO could be forced to exit business rescue before the process is completed.
