Several victims have been killed and their vehicles taken across the border into Mozambique.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has called on the national government to engage with Mozambique and eSwatini to address escalating cross-border crimes in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Ntuli held a crime Imbizo in Ngwavuma where he met with affected communities.

For many years, residents who own bakkies and other large vehicles have been targeted by cross-border syndicates. Several victims have been killed, and their vehicles taken across the border into Mozambique.

Ntuli also introduced crime-fighting measures, “There is working arrangements between the countries that we share border with, but we need to follow if there is formal agreement where the collaboration will be a formalised one. Police have been able to recover that was crossing the border to Mozambique by working with Mozambican. So, we believe that further engagements will be necessary and when we meet with the President of the country I will raise the issue.”
