South African (SA) Presidency has reaffirmed SA’s standing within the G20, dismissing any suggestion that the country needs an invitation to participate.

Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya stressed that SA is a founding member of the bloc, with an inherent right to take part in all G20 engagements.

Magwenya went further, warning that the United States (US) is pushing an approach that undermines multilateralism, an agenda he says, must be confronted and prevented.
He confirmed that Pretoria has engaged other G20 members, urging them to state their position on Washington’s stance regarding SA’s exclusion from certain processes.
However, Magwenya clarified that South Africa has no intention of calling for a boycott of the US hosted G20 gathering.
