Ramaphosa accepted Johnson’s request in terms of section 12(8)(a) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act of 1998, allowing Johnson to leave office with immediate effect.

Johnson served as IDAC, a key structure within the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) responsible for high-level corruption investigations and prosecutions.

The decision followed a recommendation by Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi that Johnson’s request be granted. National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andy Mothibi supported the recommendation.

Johnson directed the request for immediate release from office to Mothibi and Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa thanked Johnson for years of service in the NPA and for work as head of IDAC.

Ramaphosa also assured the leadership and staff of the NPA of government’s continued support for prosecutorial work and anti-corruption efforts.

Government said the NPA remains central to efforts to fight crime and corruption, with IDAC playing an important role in strengthening accountability and pursuing complex corruption cases.

Johnson’s departure comes at a time when SA continues to prioritise the fight against corruption and the rebuilding of public trust in law enforcement institutions.

The Presidency said government remains committed to supporting the NPA as the institution continues to work to investigate and prosecute corruption-related offences.
