South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire amid rising tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, warning that continued hostilities risk further destabilising the region.

The call comes after Tehran rejected a ceasefire proposal ahead of a deadline set by Donald Trump to meet his demands.

Speaking on the situation, Ramaphosa stressed that dialogue remains the only viable path forward.

“We are calling for a ceasefire, an immediate ceasefire is what the whole world needs so that this horrible war can come to an end with immediate effect. It should not be temporary, but a permanent ceasefire. Thereafter, parties must sit around the table to find lasting solutions to the challenges they are facing,” he said.

SA has consistently advocated for diplomatic engagement and peaceful resolution of conflicts, urging all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise negotiations over military action.
