President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared Wednesday, November 4, a nationwide public holiday across South Africa (SA) to enable citizens to participate in the local government elections.
In an official statement issued by the Presidency, Ramaphosa called on all registered voters to utilise the public holiday to exercise their constitutional right and civic duty at the polls.
Electoral authorities emphasised that strict ward-based voting rules will apply throughout the country. Citizens will only be permitted to cast their ballots at the specific polling stations where they are officially registered, with no provision for transferring votes to alternative voting stations for individuals traveling outside their designated wards on election day.
Addressing private sector leadership and institutional heads, Ramaphosa urged all employers across SA to grant workers adequate time off to ensure full participation in the municipal elections.
