South Africa’s (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry until 02 October 2026.

All evidence must have been presented and concluded by the new deadline.

The commission will then present its final report on November 16.

Initially, the commission was expected to wrap up its work by the end of August.

Presidential Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says, “The extension allows the commission to hear evidence on all of the matters listed in its terms of reference. Without an extension, the commission will have to leave large parts of its work unfinished. Ramaphosa once again expresses his deepest appreciation for the work conducted by the Commission as well as for the manner in which law enforcement agencies are following up on testimony emerging from commission hearings.”
