Opposition parties in South Africa (SA), the African Transformation Movement and the Economic Freedom Fighters, say they will challenge President Cyril Ramaphosa’s court bid to halt Parliament’s impeachment proceedings against him.
Ramaphosa has approached the Western Cape Province, High Court in an urgent application seeking to stop Parliament from continuing with the impeachment process linked to the Phala Phala matter, arguing that the inquiry should be paused pending a separate review.
The case stems from allegations relating to an incident at his private game farm in Limpopo Province, in 2020, where foreign currency was reportedly stolen and later concealed in a sofa.
