The meeting reaffirmed commitment to multilateral cooperation and a rules-based international order.
Youssouf expressed appreciation for SA’s leadership within the AU, including diplomatic engagement in conflict resolution initiatives and contributions to continental peace and security mechanisms. Youssouf also acknowledged SA’s role within the G20, with emphasis on continued support for regional integration and inclusive global governance.
Youssouf conveyed gratitude for SA’s pledge to support the digitalisation of AU archives, describing the initiative as important for institutional memory and knowledge preservation. Youssouf also commended SA’s legal and policy frameworks on refugee protection.
Ramaphosa expressed appreciation for Youssouf’s leadership of the AU, reaffirming support for AU priorities and reform objectives. Ramaphosa reiterated his commitment to diplomatic efforts aimed at securing sustainable peace in the DRC and South Sudan.
On global peace and security, the meeting called for urgent de-escalation in the Middle East, with emphasis on dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution.
Regarding Sudan, the meeting underscored the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and a return to a civilian-led constitutional order in line with the aspirations of the Sudanese people and frameworks endorsed by the AU.
Earlier on Thursday, SA’s Minister Ronald Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, hosted Youssouf for a working lunch ahead of the Pretoria engagement.
