South Africa’s (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa received the second interim report of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into criminality, political interference, and corruption in the criminal justice system on May 29, 2026.

Ramaphosa established the Commission in July 2025. The Commission is chaired by Retired Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.

The Presidency said Ramaphosa will study the latest interim report while the Commission continues with proceedings. The Presidency also said Ramaphosa had expressed appreciation for the interim report.

Ramaphosa has also indicated an expectation that the Commission will, in line with its terms of reference, refer actions considered to be criminal acts for prosecution.

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry was established to examine criminality, political interference, and corruption in the criminal justice system.
