SA Gauteng Province says it is using the WEF in Davos to position itself as a leading investment destination

South Africa’s (SA) Gauteng Province says it is using the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos to position itself as a leading investment destination and a gateway into the rest of the African continent.

The province has sent a delegation to WEF 2026 in Davos, Switzerland, where global leaders from government, business and civil society have gathered for the annual meeting under the theme “A spirit of dialogue”. Team SA at the forum is led by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.

Gauteng’s participation is aimed at showcasing the province’s economic strengths and attracting investment into key growth sectors. According to the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA), the province plays a central role in driving industrialisation, regional integration and economic growth.

GGDA Spokesperson Muzi Mathema said Gauteng was presenting a clear value proposition to international investors. He described the Gauteng City Region as a critical integrator of growth and development, not only for the province and SA, but for the broader African continent.

Mathema said manufacturing remains a cornerstone of Gauteng’s economic offering, spanning subsectors such as agro-processing, food and beverages, and automotive manufacturing. He added that the province also boasts a strong services economy, which plays an important role in accelerating regional integration and enabling the free movement of capital and services across borders.

Infrastructure development, Mathema said, is another key priority for the Gauteng City Region, underpinning both industrial growth and the province’s ambitions to serve as a hub for trade and investment into Africa.

Gauteng’s presence at the WEF comes as SA seeks to strengthen investor confidence and deepen its engagement with global partners amid ongoing economic challenges at home and across the continent.
