Fourteen malaria related deaths
Fourteen malaria related deaths and over 850 infections have been recorded in South Africa’s (SA) Limpopo Province since April 2025.
The Department of Health says four deaths were recorded in 2026, after the floods in January.
Three deaths were recorded in Mopani district and one in Vhembe.
The Health Department has intensified malaria spraying in high risk areas.
The department’s anti-malaria spraying campaign started in October 2025 and is expected to end in May 2026.
The Malaria control team embarked in an indoor spraying, to prevent malaria infection in mosquito prevalent areas.
About seventeen thousand houses in eight villages in the Mopani district have been sprayed.
One of the villages is Mamaila village.
The Health Department says the risk of malaria transmission has significantly increased due to the heavy rains.
Malaria symptoms include fever, headache, nausea, diarrhea and flu like symptoms.
