SA repatriates remains of Robben Island Namibian freedom fighters

The South African (SA) government has formally handed over the remains of two Namibian political prisoners who died while incarcerated at Robben Island in the Western Cape.

The two freedom fighters were jailed during the apartheid era for their active roles in the liberation struggle. Their repatriation was marked alongside a broader historic ceremony honoring 84 other Namibian national heroes whose mortal remains had remained in SA.

Officials from both SA and Namibia gathered to commemorate the fallen combatants, highlighting that the return of their remains marks a significant step toward healing historical wounds and honoring the shared liberation legacy between the two neighbouring nations.
