Residents of Nasrec, south of Johannesburg in South Africa (SA) , say they are hopeful the upcoming G20 Leaders Summit will open doors to new opportunities in their community. With just three weeks to go, SA is preparing to become the first African nation to host the influential gathering of world economic leaders.
Some locals have already noticed meaningful changes ahead of the summit.
One resident told SABC News they’ve seen positive developments, especially in community maintenance.
“I think it has already brought a lot of opportunities before it even started. All thanks to City Parks and Johannesburg Zoo, I have seen them very actively around cleaning and cutting off trees. But can this not only happen when G20 is coming as I love seeing how my neighbourhood always looks. They have also employed a lot of youth people from every place, Monde View and Xavier Reef, that are working to clean up the whole community before the event starts,” the resident said.
