South African (SA) serial killer, Thabo Bester and co-accused, Dr Nandipha Magudumana, are expected back in the Bloemfontein High Court in the Free State on Friday for another pre-trial hearing in their prison escape matter
They both have pending legal matters, including Magudumana’s Constitutional Court appeal.
Bester is challenging his incarceration conditions, while Magudumana is contesting the legality of her arrest in Tanzania.
A trial date may only be set once these issues are resolved.
Bester escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in May 2022.
It’s alleged that prison guards assisted him by using Katlego Bereng’s body as a decoy.
In a special broadcast, SABC News spoke to the people who felt Thabo Bester’s power the most,  inmates, wardens, and families.
Their stories lay bare the violence, the silence, and the secrets they say Mangaung Prison tried to bury.
