South African (SA) Deputy President Paul Mashatile has wrapped up talks with South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit, with both sides agreeing on key issues around peace and economic co-operation.
Mashatile, who is serving as SA’s Special Envoy to South Sudan, has been working to support the country’s Revitalised Peace Agreement. The latest meeting confirmed support for South Sudan’s planned elections in December 2026.
The two leaders also discussed strengthening economic ties, with a focus on mining and transport as areas for future co-operation.
