South African (SA) Olympic gold medallist Chad le Clos will take on the notoriously tough 8-Mile Charity Challenge at next year’s aQuellé Midmar Mile, joining swimmers who will be raising funds for the Chad le Clos Foundation.
Although Le Clos has been a familiar presence at the event for years, the 2012 champion has rarely competed, as most of his focus has been on maintaining his international career in the pool. He has often been spotted cheering from the sidelines at the KwaZulu-Natal dam, but says he is excited to be part of the action in a more meaningful way this time around.
His participation comes after a lengthy break from competition. Le Clos stepped away earlier this year to fully recover from lingering injuries and will arrive at the Midmar Mile as part of his steady return to the sport.
The 8-Mile Charity Challenge requires swimmers to complete eight crossings over two days, with participants raising money for a range of charities, including Le Clos’s own foundation.
