South Africa (SA) says its upcoming Chairpersonship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will focus on accelerating regional development through stronger political leadership and the implementation of key programmes.
International Relations and Co-operation Minister Ronald Lamola says Heads of State and government will champion priority areas including infrastructure, industrialisation, agriculture, mining, resource mobilisation and social development as part of SADC’s vision 2050 and the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan.
He was briefing the media on SA’s preparations to host the 46th SADC Summit in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, later this month.
The briefing was convened to update the media on SA’s key foreign policy priorities and upcoming international engagements.
A major focus was the country’s preparations to host the 46th SADC Summit in Durban later this month, where SA will assume the SADC Chairpersonship.
Lamola outlined the regional priorities that will shape SA’s leadership, including infrastructure development, industrialisation, agriculture and strengthening regional integration.
The summit will kick off with a lecture by SA President Cyril Ramaphosa.
