The Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga says South Africa (SA) will promote stronger support for women’s empowerment and better access to justice at the upcoming global meeting on women’s rights.
The 70th session of the United Nations (UN) Commission on the Status of Women is taking place at UN Headquarters in New York City.
Chikunga says SA will call for stronger co-operation between countries, greater investment in programmes that empower women, and improved access to justice for women and girls.
She also highlighted the importance of including young women, women from rural areas and women with disabilities in decision-making processes, particularly those who were previously disadvantaged.
Chikunga says advancing gender equality is vital for the well-being of families and communities.
