Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie has confirmed that 16 South African (SA) football fans will travel to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to watch the opening match between Mexico and Bafana Bafana.
The winners were chosen from more than 200 entries, with supporters submitting short videos showing their passion for the national team and their clubs.
The selected group includes fans from across the Premier Soccer League, with some having previously travelled to tournaments at their own expense.
McKenzie said the initiative is aimed at recognising loyal supporters while giving ordinary fans a rare chance to experience football’s biggest stage.
He added that four additional wildcard spots will still be allocated through social media.
