Johannesburg hosts the 6th Payments Association of South Africa (PASA) International Payment Conference, spotlighting the urgent need to harness technology to reduce reliance on cash and promote financial inclusion across SA.
The event has drawn more than 780 delegates, including financiers and fintech innovators, to discuss the rapidly evolving payments ecosystem.
The conference comes as the SA Reserve Bank signals major forthcoming changes to the National Payment System. Among the panelists, Professor Adrian Seville of the Gordon Institute of Business Science stressed the crucial role of financial literacy.
“It is one thing to provide access to bank accounts, but without financial literacy, true inclusion cannot be achieved,” Seville said. “Building an effective savings platform fuels investment, drives economic growth, creates employment, boosts productivity, and lays the groundwork for addressing inequality.”
