SA’s Vodacom Bulls take 13 Springboks to Ireland for URC tour

They will face Ulster and Connacht in Ireland, before taking on Glasgow in Scotland.

Their preparations have, however, been disrupted after captain Marcell Coetzee failed a head injury assessment and was ruled out of the trip. Coetzee, who led the Bulls to two strong opening wins, will remain at home under medical supervision. Hooker Johann Grobbelaar will captain the side in his absence.

Kurt-Lee Arendse is still recovering from a hamstring injury but could be available later in the tour. As part of player welfare protocols, Wilco Louw will be replaced after week two by Khuta Mchunu. Lock Ruan Nortje has also been rested but remains on standby.

The squad has been boosted by the return of Cheswill Jooste, Jan Serfontein and Cobus Wiese, who missed last weekend’s game against Leinster. The addition of Springboks Handré Pollard, Louw and Canan Moodie is expected to strengthen the team, though Coach Johan Ackermann says integrating them quickly will be crucial.

“We’ve got individual plans in place, but injuries have already forced a few changes,” Ackermann said. “It’s probably the biggest challenge for Handré, as he’s the newest addition, while the others are familiar with our setup.”
