The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has joined Zimbabwe in observing Anti-Sanctions Day

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has joined Zimbabwe in observing Anti-Sanctions Day on October 25, 2025.

The day, first declared at the 39th SADC Summit in Dar es Salaam in 2019, calls for the unconditional removal of long-standing sanctions imposed on one of the region’s founding members.

SADC notes that these sanctions have repeatedly disrupted Zimbabwe’s economy and social systems, while also affecting trade and development across the wider region. The organisation stresses that no nation’s growth should be constrained by external pressures.: “Inclusive Development through Heritage-based Innovation and Industrialisation in a Multilateral World,” highlighting shared growth, resilience, and sustainable development.

“We reaffirm our solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe and continue to call for the immediate lifting of these sanctions,” SADC said.

The regional bloc is urging all 16 member states to stand with Zimbabwe, promoting a future of peace, stability and prosperity for the entire SADC region.
