The Southern African Development Community’s (SADC) Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC) is in Zambia to conduct pre-election consultations with key stakeholders ahead of the country’s general election scheduled for August 13, 2026.
The goodwill mission is led by Ambassador Joseph Nourrice of Seychelles and Dr Leonard Sesa of Botswana, with support from officials from the SADC Secretariat.
During the visit, the delegation will engage with government representatives, political parties, civil society organisations and election experts to assess the country’s preparedness for the polls and gather views on the electoral environment.
The mission forms part of SADC’s standard election observation process and is conducted in line with the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections. Under these guidelines, SEAC is mandated to undertake a pre-election assessment goodwill mission in member states preparing to hold general elections.
