The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Elias Magosi, has praised Zambia for its leadership role as the incoming Chair of the regional bloc and for anchoring the Summit Organ Troika during the transition period.

Magosi’s remarks coincide with the official launch of the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to Zambia ahead of the country’s General Elections on Thursday, August 12, 2026.

Magosi commended the region’s commitment to democratic governance, emphasising that the electoral process plays a critical role in upholding SADC’s principles and guidelines governing democratic elections.

Expressing confidence in the country’s democratic trajectory, he extended best wishes to the citizens of Zambia as they head to the polls to select their government, affirming SADC’s solidarity with the nation to ensure peace, unity, and long-term stability.
