Statistics Committee Meeting
Regional efforts to improve the quality and reliability of labour data are under the spotlight at the 34th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Statistics Committee Meeting currently underway in South Africa’s (SA) Cape Town, Western Cape Province.
Zimbabwe’s Director-General of ZimStat, Tafadzwa Bandama, has highlighted ongoing challenges in compiling accurate employment statistics.
This pertains, in particular, to capturing cross-border economic activity, the informal sector, and other precarious forms of employment that dominate many Southern African economies.
The meeting, hosted by Statistics SA, brings together statistical leaders and experts from across the region to strengthen the harmonisation of national and regional data systems.
It also aims to boost capacity building initiatives and accelerate digital transformation in the production of official statistics.
