Malawi says Southern African Development Community (SADC) must reduce dependence on foreign aid and strengthen regional co-operation in response to growing global geopolitical and economic pressures.
Speaking to Channel Africa after the recently concluded SADC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat, held at the Paul Kruger National Park in Skukuza, Mpumalanga Province, Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Chaponda described the talks as “fruitful,”.
He says Ministers focused on the impact of conflicts in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Sudan on the SADC region.
He stated that the rising fuel prices, fertilizer shortages, and reduced donor support are placing increased pressure on African economies.
