South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Vision 2050 outlines an ambitious future for SADC, one built on greater regional integration, shared prosperity and the elimination of divisions created by colonialism.
Delivering a public lecture at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Westville Campus in Durban, Ramaphosa said the vision envisages a region where borders no longer hinder the movement of people, skills, goods, services, capital and knowledge.
He added that the goal is to ensure communities across the region have access to food, water, security, quality education, decent work and sustainable livelihoods.
Ramaphosa stressed that SADC was formed on the understanding that no single country can achieve these aspirations alone.
