SALC says it’s confident that it has a strong case against the government

The Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) says it’s confident that it has a strong case against the government over permits to export arms to the United States.

The public interest law organisation has filed an application in the High Court in Pretoria, Gauteng Province, seeking to suspend or set aside arms export permits that SA’s National Conventional Arms Control Committee has granted.

It argues that the transfers may be inconsistent with domestic law and could raise concerns about international peace and security.

Meanwhile, the government has filed papers to oppose the lawsuit.
