São Tomé and Príncipe is gearing up for a crucial round of triple elections on Sunday, September 27, 2026, with seven political parties battling for control of the 55-seat National Assembly.
Around 142 000 registered voters are expected to head to the polls to elect the lawmakers who will decide the country’s next parliament, and, in turn, name the next Prime Minister. Beyond the national race, voters will also cast ballots in municipal elections across São Tomé island, alongside regional elections on the island of Príncipe.
With a wide mix of established parties and newer political movements presenting vastly different visions for the country, the upcoming vote looks set to redraw the political map in the island nation.
