South Africa’s (SA) African National Congress (ANC) says its priority this year is to ensure an improvement in the delivery basic services in local government

The party’s Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the party’s January 8th Statement focused on addressing problems of under-performing municipalities and restoring public trust. He was speaking at the ANC’s 114th anniversary celebrations in Trompsburg, in the Xhariep District in the Free State on Saturday.

“We work very hard to win confidence, but also to build a social contract with the people. So, it’s not just about elections. It’s about rekindling our connection with the people, not to be distant, and to be amongst them. And at the same time, to provide leadership and address their expectations. So, the January 8th statement talks about fixing local government and the economy. That is the message,” he said.
