Banyana Banyana will now look to capitalise on home advantage when they host the second leg at the FNB Stadium
South Africa’s (SA) Banyana Banyana secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Kinshasa on Wednesday in the first leg of their second-round Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying tie.
The encounter at the Pentecost Martyrs Stadium was tightly contested, with Coach Desiree Ellis’ side taking the lead late in the first half through Kgalebane Mohlakoana. However, their advantage was short-lived as Ruth Monique equalised for the hosts just before halftime.
Banyana Banyana will now look to capitalise on home advantage when they host the second leg at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg next Tuesday. The winners of these second-round fixtures will qualify for the expanded 16-team Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, set to be held in Morocco in March and April 2026.
