The South Africa’s (SA) national rugby Sevens team, Blitzboks are still celebrating after winning the Hong Kong Sevens for the first time.
The Blitzboks have put together an impressive run of form, winning four tournaments in a row across the globe. They also sit at the top of the World Championship standings, despite being the only team that does not need to qualify for next season.
After a shaky start in Hong Kong, which included an unconvincing win against Uruguay and a loss to Spain, players received a stern response from their coach. Senior player Ryan Oosthuizen says the tough approach was necessary.
“We lost against Spain very badly on Friday. The coach had harsh words with us. It wasn’t nice; it was almost like your dad scolding you or yelling at you, but it was needed. We know what the Blitzbok standard is, and we didn’t live up to that standard.”
