South Africa’s (SA) state power utility Eskom ​on Monday reported its second ‌consecutive annual profit, citing sustained operational recovery, higher tariffs and cost ​discipline.

Eskom said it made ​profit after tax of $1.88 billion in ​the year ended March 2026, ​more than double the restated 14.0 billion rand it posted for the ​prior 12 months, which ​was its first profit in eight years.

The power ‌cuts ⁠that have held back Africa’s biggest economy for more than a decade have become ​much less ​frequent. ⁠

The utility said it implemented power cuts ​on just four days ​in ⁠the financial year, compared with 13 days a year earlier ⁠and ​a record 329 ​days in 2024.
