The Chief Albert Luthuli Foundation in South Africa (SA) is calling for history books, museums and public records to be updated.
The foundation says the call is to reflect the true circumstances surrounding the death of the first African Nobel Peace Prize laureate Chief Albert Luthuli.
The call comes as the foundation marks the 59th anniversary of Luthuli’s death and declares 2027 the Year of Luthuli.
It has launched a campaign to correct what it says are decades of inaccurate historical records.
The October 2025 ruling overturned the apartheid-era finding that Luthuli died after being struck by a train.
The KwaZulu-Natal Province court instead found that he died from a fractured skull and brain haemorrhage linked to an assault.
Luthuli served as the President of the African National Congress.
