South Africa’s (SA) Department of Home Affairs and the Border Management Authority (BMA) say they are facing mounting pressure at the Musina Repatriation Centre due to a surge in undocumented foreign nationals awaiting voluntary deportation.
Authorities say the processing system has become heavily congested, with large numbers of Malawian, Zimbabwean and Mozambican nationals passing through the facility.
The influx has placed significant strain on resources and has increased the demand for faster processing and administrative support.
Despite the challenges, officials insist measures are being implemented to manage the growing numbers and prevent further delays.
Provincial Home Affairs Acting Chief Director Albert Matsaung says teams from both the Department of Home Affairs and the BMA are working around the clock to ensure that all individuals are processed as quickly and efficiently as possible.
