South Africa’s (SA) Orlando Pirates legend Jomo Sono has cautioned Orlando Pirates to prepare for a hard‑fought contest against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby, warning that Kaizer Chiefs will be determined to restore pride after the previous heavy defeat.

Orlando Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs 3–0 in the most recent league meeting in February, but Sono believes form counts for little in a derby setting, especially at a sold‑out FNB Stadium.

“Orlando Pirates still hold the aces, but the match depends on attitude on the day,” Sono said. “Kaizer Chiefs will fight for pride. No points will be given away. A real fight is expected.”

Sono, owner and head coach of Jomo Cosmos, described the fixture as one of the standout rivalries in SA football and said the occasion demands intensity and discipline from both teams. Support for Orlando Pirates remains personal for Sono, but stressed that an Orlando Pirates win is far from guaranteed against a motivated Kaizer Chiefs side.

Attention is also focused on the Betway Premiership title race, with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns closely matched as the season moves into the final stretch. Jomo Sono expects the championship battle to go down to the final two rounds, predicting dropped points by both contenders along the way.

“About five matches remain. Points will be dropped somewhere, without doubt,” Jomo Sono said. “The title will be decided in the last two matches, not now.”

Despite the tight contest, Sono declared confidence in an Orlando Pirates title finish, while acknowledging that Mamelodi Sundowns remains a formidable opponent.
