South Africa’s (SA) suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya is back in Gauteng Province, Randburg Magistrate’s Court as his bail application resumes, with the State continuing to rely on recorded conversations as part of its case opposing his release.
The hearing was postponed last week after the magistrate ordered proper translations and transcripts of audio recordings which prosecutors argue point to possible witness interference.
Proceedings today began with Investigating Officer Detective Sergeant Nokukhanya Ndlovu reading into the record a transcript of a conversation involving a state witness identified only as Mr M and an unidentified man.
Sibiya faces several charges, including the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl, rape, human trafficking and a firearms related offence.
He denies the allegations.
