KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police in South Africa (SA) say security around the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) will be tight for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) heads of state and government summit.
The gathering has kicked-off with SA’s senior officials assuming the chairmanship of the Standing Committee from Madagascar.
Several roads around the precinct in the Durban Central Business District will be closed for the duration of the summit.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to access and exit the city.
KZN police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda says, “Different law enforcement agencies are ready to ensure that there is peace, safety and stability even around Durban especially the area of ICC and all the hotels that have heads of states that will be using for the duration of the summit. As law enforcement we have been planning for these activities for quite some time now. So, we have put together a special plan which is now in the stage of execution.”
