Senegal has been elected to lead the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission for the 2026 to 2030 term, marking a historic milestone for the regional bloc.
The decision was taken at the 68th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, held in Abuja, Nigeria.
This appointment marks the first time Senegal has been entrusted with the presidency of the ECOWAS Commission, ushering in a new chapter of leadership for the West African regional body.
ECOWAS plays a key role in promoting regional integration, economic co-operation and political stability across West Africa.
