Senegal is preparing for a National Youth Convention this December, bringing together young people and key stakeholders to discuss their role in shaping public policy.
The event, organised by the Senegalese Youth Consortium, will involve the government, local authorities, religious and traditional leaders, the private sector, academia, civil society, and development partners.
The convention aims to develop practical reforms that promote the systematic inclusion of youth in decision-making processes and public initiatives.
Regional youth conventions will begin in the coming days, leading up to the national event on December 11.
Speaking from Dakar, Khadim Bamba Fall, President of the Association Génération Optimiste, said the convention offers young people a rare opportunity to influence policies affecting their future.
“This is more than a gathering; it’s a chance for youth to contribute directly to shaping decisions that impact their lives,” Fall said.
Organisers pointed out that the conventions will provide a structured space for dialogue, consensus-building, and recommendations that can feed into national strategies for youth development.
