Seychelles welcomes African Union Commission Chair for jubilee celebrations

Seychelles President Dr Patrick Herminie has welcomed African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf to the island nation as part of the country’s landmark 50th Jubilee independence celebrations.

According to an official statement from the Presidency, the high-level meeting focused heavily on the shared socio-economic challenges currently faced by African nations. Herminie specifically highlighted the acute economic vulnerabilities Seychelles faces in its capacity as a Small Island Developing State.

While reflecting on the significant structural progress the country has achieved since gaining independence in 1976, Herminie underlined the persistent external economic pressures that continue to impact small island economies. According to delegation officials, Youssouf praised the developmental milestones achieved by Seychelles over the past five decades and emphasised the critical necessity of continental unity in tackling regional crises.
