At least six people have lost their lives after a stampede broke out during a military recruitment exercise at El-Wak Stadium in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
Eyewitnesses say the crash began when large crowds of job seekers pushed through the gates, overwhelming security officials. Thousands had turned up hoping to secure positions in the armed forces.
With youth unemployment hovering around 13%, such recruitment events often attract huge turnouts. Authorities have launched an investigation into what led to the tragedy.
