A growing fuel shortage and rising petrol prices in Mogadishu are forcing tuk-tuk drivers off the roads, cutting off a vital source of income for thousands of families in the Somali capital.
Drivers say the sharp increase in fuel costs has made it difficult to continue operating, with many unable to afford daily refuelling. As a result, some have parked their vehicles, while others are working fewer hours to limit losses.
Tuk-tuks are a key part of Mogadishu’s transport system, providing affordable mobility across the city while supporting livelihoods for a large informal workforce.
The shortage has also disrupted daily life for residents who rely on the three-wheeled vehicles for commuting, raising concerns about broader economic pressure on already vulnerable households.
