The Somalian National Army has successfully taken control of Baidoa, the strategic administrative capital of Southwest State.
This follows weeks of escalating tension between the federal government in Mogadishu and regional authorities.
The military move into Baidoa follows a period of “severed ties” between the region and Mogadishu.
It is reported that President Laftagareen resigned almost immediately after federal troops entered the city.
He has been in office for more than seven years.
There are also allegations that Turkish-trained Gorgor special forces and Turkish-supplied drones were used in this offensive.
