South Africans (SA) are living longer with chronic illnesses, according to new research from SA medical scheme administrator Discovery Health.
Its latest HealthTrend26 report shows that survival rates for conditions such as cancer have improved significantly.
The cancer mortality has fallen by 48% over the past 15 years.
The findings highlight how advances in treatment are transforming some life-threatening diseases into long-term conditions, with implications for healthcare costs and medical aid schemes.
