The Springboks are no strangers to the pressures that come from playing the best teams in the world.
They successfully bounced back in the British and Irish Lions series in 2021 after losing the opening Test. They are also the only team to go on to win a Rugby World Cup after losing their opening match.
Captain Siya Kolisi says they will have to learn from their mistakes if they want to keep alive their hopes of winning the series outright.
“We have all been in this position before, with the Lions at the World Cup, losing the first game. We know how to handle the situation with the mind and off the field, but now what is most important is actually on the field itself. We need to go and play and execute.
When we watch the game, after we watch, as rugby players and coaching staff, we looked at the score. It was a big scoreline, but we looked at the missed opportunities. If we had got the opportunities, things might have been different.
We are lucky to have the experience, but it means nothing if we don’t learn from the mistakes we made the week before.”
