Sudan is moving to restore its battered energy sector after years of conflict, with authorities placing new emphasis on renewable power. Energy and Petroleum Minister Elmutasim Ibrahim Ali says damage to electricity infrastructure has left much of the country struggling with unreliable supply.

Work is now underway to repair key systems across generation, transmission and distribution. At the same time, officials are looking to scale up solar and hydropower as part of a longer-term plan to stabilise energy supply and reduce reliance on traditional sources.
