A Sudan Airways flight from Port Sudan to Khartoum took off on Sunday

A Sudan Airways flight from Port Sudan to Khartoum took off on Sunday, signalling the first step in reopening Sudan’s air travel network.

The airport had been closed and severely damaged during the outbreak of fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces earlier this year. Officials say the gradual reopening will pave the way for regional and international flights to resume in the coming weeks.

Naba Mohiedeen reports that authorities are prioritising repairs and safety measures to restore confidence among travellers, as the country works to reconnect its air transport links after months of disruption.
