General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairperson of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, held talks with Ambassador Mohamed Belaiche, the African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson’s Special Representative for Sudan, to evaluate the country’s fluid political and security environment.
The discussions focused on reviving AU-led mediation tracks and finalising plans to officially reopen the AU Liaison Office in Khartoum, a strategic step toward mending institutional channels between Sudan and the continental body.
Belaiche reaffirmed the AU’s dedication to engaging directly with all domestic stakeholders. He emphasised that the AU remains fully committed to facilitating an inclusive, Sudanese-owned political dialogue aimed at restoring constitutional governance and securing a sustainable, long-term peace agreement.
Sudan’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohieddine Salem, also participated in the closed-door diplomatic briefing, which comes at a pivotal juncture as regional bodies look to defuse the ongoing national crisis.
